I was so excited to begin reading this book since I live in Texas. The Gillespie County Fair captures the very real and present conflict that exists in many sections and small communities in Texas at the very present moment. It revolves around the historic and oldest county fair in Texas. The conflict between the the established and centuries old settlement of German areas in and around Fredericksburg, Texas and the influx of rampant new development is ever present. Residents who have formed these communities over the decades are generally farming and ranching. The direct conflict as the story evolves is generated around the end of an era of 2 very prominent pioneer families. The success of a very stubborn young woman is a joy to watch unfold.
