In the beginning of Gillespie County Fair I found myself quite immersed in the storyline and the characters. This book shined when it came to character back stories and growth. I could picture myself in the town of Fredricksburg and coming upon these characters and knowing them to an extent. That was also a downfall in that for such a shorter novel (under 200 pages) there were too many characters and a lot of them were extended family which I found hard to keep track of. The point of views would shift in awkward places to where I would have to sit and think who's eyes I was seeing from and their role in the family. I would have also liked to have seen the actual fair more throughout the story and not taken a backseat to the real estate side of the storyline. Overall, I found myself entertained and thought this book was an easy to read and character immersive story.
