There is something special about a small town, a southern town, and especially one that has an ethnic history as its foundation. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease with which the author uses his words to paint a picture of the town and its main characters while refraining from the usual long descriptions I tend to skim over. No, I want to understand every thought, emotion, and intention of these characters, particularly Willow and her estranged father, Carel. I am anxious to learn if Carel's devious nature ruins him in the end and whether Willow will be the Geische who rises to claim her rightful place in the town where German heritage stands for honesty and hard work.
