We have all read some form of heist book, whether it be Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows or Four Dead Queen by Astrid Scholte, or even Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston. But the commonality of these books are that a group of unlike characters come together for a common goal.

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi follows that same archetype by using five main characters that all work together to restore Séverin's semblance of family and power, by racing after lost artifacts. Like most YA fantasy novels, The Gilded Wolves feature a sense of magic while being enveloped in a world set in the industrialization of Paris.

As much as I wished to enjoy this book, I kept finding it to be too similar to Bardugo's work. Much to the point that I kept waiting for the moment when Kaz Brekker strode onto the scene. But that's just me, hopefully other people will like it more.
