This book was just perfect for me! A crew of diverse and marginalized characters which were very fun to read about and a very unique historical fantasy heist set in 18th century Paris with splendidly written magic system. There were different puzzles and mysteries all throughout and often mentioned several the parts of history, mythology, mathematics, science and etc. It was flabbergasting. I REALLY LOVE STUFF LIKE THAT ❤️.
Also, the crew is just perfect. I just can’t help but love every single one of them!
First we have my girl Laila, the ever dashing L’Énigme who is a dancer / baker and is of Indian ethnicity. My fave character in the book 💕.
Of course next is Severin, the leader of the group. He is the last remaining member of the House Vanth and is doing everything to reclaim what was rightfully his.
Next is Enrique, my precious historian boy. He is a Spanish-Filipino revolutionary and also a bisexual. His character is very witty and humorous 🥰.
We also have Zofia, the phoenix/alchemist/mathematician of the gang. She’s a certified introvert and unsociable. SHE LOVES MATH 🤯🙌.
Lastly, the baby of the group Tristan who has a huge frightening tarantula that he named Goliath. Also, he is a naturalist. “I protect you ❤️”.
Also, let me just add another one, the ever so confident Hypnos. I was quite skeptical about his character at first but near the end, I kinda started to like him. This book is really fast-paced, it was quite confusing because there was a lot going on at some point. I couldn’t focus. It also made me reread a few passages a couple of times . This is the only reason I didn’t give it a full five stars.
