It might be that I had high expectations for this book because I had been waiting for its release and had heard so much about it, but I was disappointed. I struggled to continue reading because I found myself unable to sympathize or relate to the characters. Also, I think the author’s writing style got in the way. Maybe it was too flowery for my taste but I found myself seeing the words rather than getting immersed in the story itself.
On the flip side, the story and plot were enticing from the get-go and if I didn’t typically read for character rather than plot, I may have been able to get into this story more.
Again, this may be just a matter of taste and this was the first book I have read written by this author.
