I was very excited to read this book, a heist story compared to Six of Crows in turn of the century Paris. However, I ended up skimming the last few pages because I couldn't DNF after reading 3/4 of it, and I hate to say this but this book didn't live up to it's potential. And the potential was certainly there, all the ingredients seem to be present, but I was too disengaged with the characters and the plot to care. The world building was lavish and interesting, but I think the main problem is that the characters fell flat. There was a lot of diversity and very elaborate alternating POV's, but most of the voices sounded too similar to each other, especially the male ones. It felt to me like the themes, personality, identities and even the plot were rather superficial, only suggesting ideas but not really exploring them. There was one character that came through, Zofia, her voice was more distinct then the rest, but we are mainly told that she is Jewish and persecuted, there little of her heritage comping through in voice or actions.
