Interesting concept
I always love books where a crew of friends who have become family are looking to outwit others. Gilded Wolves did that well with the added element of creating a new world with magic. It’s been years since I read the book and yet I still think of the burden (and wonder) of having a power that allowed you to tell the history of an object.
The book being set in 1889 adds an extra layer of mystery in addition to the magic. It’s a time of innovation, but the powers people have means the lack of modern technology goes unnoticed.
I was never bored with the cast of characters or unpacking their relationships. All of this, combined with a treasure hunt, makes Gilded Wolves a book I couldn’t put down. I look forward to reading the series and seeing how Severin manages to outwit his opponents on his quest to get his inheritance (and how Hypnos continues to aggravate him).
