I really wanted to love The Gilded Wolves SO, so bad.
In theory, it seemed like it has everything I like and want from a book in that genre - diversity in the cast, a fun heist story, a cool setting, interesting magic, but aside from the setting and atmosphere, in practice it just didn't deliver for me at all.

I couldn't connect with a single character, I didn't feel for any of the relationships, the plot and the magic system were kinda all over the place and not very well explained in the case of the latter (it's not that it's actually that complicated or hard to understand or anything, but the way we're introduced to it seemed very counterintuitive to me) and it became almost a physical struggle trying to finish this book.

Sidenote: I was granted an arc for the follow up novel, The Silvered Serpents, and I will say I liked it marginally better than The Gilded Wolves, but I'm afraid despite all her talent with weaving beautiful, vivid imagery in her story, Roshani Chokshi's writing might just not be for me.
