This book was recommended to me on tiktok for fans of Six of Crows and it did not disappoint. It had everything i loved about Six of Crows (the intriguing magical world, the complex characters, and a heist aspect) all without being too similar to SoC that it felt like the same book.

The Gilded Wolves is an historical fantasy (is that actually a term?), set in 1889 Paris, which I thought was such a fun and interesting setting. The characters were wonderfully written, all with their own goals and tragic back stories. The banter between them was so amazing I could of read a whole 400 pages of them just sitting around, talking. My only complaint about the characters was that we didn't get much description of any of them until far into the book. I spent the first three-quarters of the book imagining Zofia with dark hair only to find out that she's blonde. I appreciate not info-dumping the character's descriptions, but a little sooner, please?

The plot was intriguing and fast-paced with little moments here and there for breathers. It had lots of humor, which I definitely appreciate. The ending was a perfect combination of frustrating and hopeful that made me want to read the next one. I did want to punch Séverin though.
