Set in Paris in 1889, the city is on the cusp of advancement and change as the city gears up for the Exposition Universelle. This is a world where industrial advances live side by side with magic, with characters using their powers to navigate their changing world. I absolutely loved the setting and the introduction of the four Houses protecting the fragments of the Tower of Babel and the problems of power that come with that.

The characters are each unique and I loved that we got to get in each of their heads. It allowed Chokshi to build tension in the novel, especially when we know that the characters are sometimes keeping secrets from one another and you just know that they're going to come to light.

As much as I enjoyed this book, I had a bit of a problem with how long it took for you to get into the action. I could have done with less talking and more action.

I recommend this book for readers who like heist books and the found family trope. Looking forward to seeing what happens next in the series!
