Loved the fantasy elements and the historical setting. It has this Dan Brown meets National Treasure feel in their pursuit of these illusive artifacts in order for the main character to reclaim his birthright. It’s a bit dense and jam packed with mythological and historical tidbits from all over the world but the relationships between the characters are a standout highlight. 4 stars for this beautifully written historical fantasy!

The best thing for me was the diversity without being heavy handed or obtrusive with it. Everyone had a unique identity and personality but also happened to be Jewish, Indian, Filipino, Spanish, African, neurodivergent, gay, bisexual. That’s the type of diversity I prefer - fully fleshed out characters who happen to also be X rather than X being used as a plot device. It’s something authors like Chokshi who is also Indian and Filipino do so well.
