Every once in a while I'll read a book that has all the elements I usually love and gravitate to, but I'll feel completely disconnected from the characters and story for some reason. And this is this book for me.
Laila is the only character I was able to really get invested in/ grab onto. Everyone else just feels very meh. They're not bad, just nothing that I feel connected to, so I really don't care what happens to them. Laila is just so much more interesting then they are lol. And I don't feel like sticking around a whole trilogy just for her, when she's only a fraction of the story (since everyone in the crew is a main/ POV character).
I also want to say: they are all so bad at their jobs lmao. They're supposed to be this big bad thieving syndicate, but they're terrible at it. Everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. They don't account for possible mistakes that are so obvious that I know what's going to happen before it does. It's like watching amateurs put together a train, and then knowing you're going to have to watch it wreck. It's insanely frustrating. Like how are they so stupid when they're supposed to be these great thieves we were told about in the beginning. I honestly don't know how they constantly avoid death, I feel like they should've died multiple times over for their constant mistakes.
