For a moment I was not sure if this was a book of imaginary worlds or one that involved real history but with added emphasis on secret societies and ceremonies. Since it involves imaginary worlds and magical powers, this probably is not a book for me. However, I must admit that this book does seem very well written, and the beautiful cover is sure to catch some well deserved attention from many readers. Interestingly, the reigning queen in this novel has behavior that smacks of some repulsive modern personalities, mistaking wealth and/or fame for being a superior human being. She is instantly quite repulsive as she worries that being punctual for an event makes her seem like a peasant. Does that make the reader want to yell, "Off with her head"? Don't worry; she quickly gets what she deserves. I did find myself thinking that the secret powers of Laila were extremely interesting. I will keep this title on my list of potential books to come back to when I want another imaginary- world escape!
