"Nothing but a symbol? People die for symbols. People have hope because of symbols. They're not just lines. They're histories, cultures, traditions, given shape."

SYNOPSIS: The Gilded Wolves is set in 1889 Paris and follows a thieving crew that targets the magical elite society, the Order of Babel. The Order of Babel hoards magical objects and magical history. Séverin has made it his life's mission to get revenge on the Order, who stole everything from him. He does this through stealing their magical objects. Séverin and his crew of misfits are completing their most dangerous heist yet, but must ally with a member of the Order to complete it.

I really enjoyed this book! I love a book with a good heist and this one gave me Six of Crows as well as Oceans 11 vibes. I love that the book explores the power of magic, scientific inventions, and history. The non-magic characters were just as important as the magical ones. I do want to highlight that this book features a neurodivergent POV character that I find quite compelling. She is also a female engineer! 👏 for both disability rep and women in STEM rep! Finally, I love that the magic system is based off the story of the Tower of Babel.

My only critique in this book is the some of the characters seemed to act much older than believable for their age. This is common with YA, but it still irks me a bit.

Overall, it's a great read and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
