in Chokshi's captivating new fantasy, readers are brought into a world where secrets and deceit are obscured beneath glittering masks and jeweled dress, and murder and mystery are nothing short of expected in a dark yet vibrantly lush in 19th century Paris. The story opens up with a ghastly murder, then follows treasure-seeker Severin, who answers a call from the Order of Babel in response to the fall of the various Houses of France, with a priceless reward offered in turn. He seeks out a gang of intellectuals and confidants to help him with his mission, and together they must brave the streets of lethal and mysterious Paris, not knowing who to trust, or if they will even make it out alive. I think this will be a wonderful addition to the YA fantasy genre, Chokshi's writing is so descriptive and lyrical, it brings me chills and leaves me wanting more, her world-building is outstanding and her prose magnificent. This will definitely be a much anticipated new release.
