Beautifully written, The German House by Annette Hess is a compelling coming of age historical fiction novel starring the smart, brave, and strong Eva. I was quite surprised to learn that this book was translated to English from its original German, as the words seemed to flow off the page seamlessly. Eva puts everything on the line to find out the truth during this tumultulous time of world history. I liked the varying perspectives, the compelling side stories, and the quick paced that kept the pages turning. This is a true coming of age story with deep roots in historical fiction. The historical aspect seemed well researched and I would recommend this to anyone new or old to this genre.
