I loved the idea of following a translator. We follow Eva as she is trying to discover her family's past and why certain things about the past are off limits. We get to know Eva's family and they do not seem like they are just sideline characters - you feel like they actually are well described on the page.
I found the lack of specific chapters a little disorienting and if I am honest, that tempered my enjoyment of the book for some reason. I am not sure, but something about not having the chapter breaks made the story feel longer and a bit disconnected. While I still enjoyed the story overall, I kept feeling like I was missing the chapters, but that could just be a personal preference.
Overall, if you are a fan of WW2 fiction, this is certainly an entertaining, thought provoking read!
