The German House follows Eva Bruhns during the Auschwitz Trials after World War II. She works as a Polish translator, and is surprised when most people she encounters (such as her family and fiance) have no interest in the atrocities that happened during the war. The trial takes a backseat to the drama that's going on in her life, with a large part of the book following her sisters affair and Eva's own relationship drama. At times it was interesting, but overall I wish more emphasis would have been placed on the actual trial. It was interesting getting to see Eva come to the realization of what happened at Aushwitz, but from an informed reader's perspective, it seemed as though the Holocaust was a small part of the story, being secondary to the familial and relationship drama. The book had the opportunity to educate readers, but didnt seem to do so, which was quite disappointing.
