I want to start off by saying thank you to Celadon books for an ARC of The Genome Odyssey. This book fascinated me from the moment I saw it. Being in the science field myself this book was the perfect one to start my non-fiction journey. While I am in the science field, I strictly work with microorganisms and not much with the genome. Reading this book allowed me to expand my knowledge in the genetic field and really left me with a profound interest in genetics that I never had when I was in school. It is absolutely amazing how far genetic and genome research has come, especially with the advances that have been made with CRISPR. I think this book really highlights the medical advances in using different mechanisms to advance medical science.
Overall, while this book was simple for me to read, I can see how it would be a difficult read for someone who was not familiar at all with some of the science aspects in this book. However, with just a simple internet search of some of the concepts, you will be able to completely break this down to understand the general aspects of the genome. I do think that this truly was a well-written book and really enjoyed the read!
