First things first: I LOVED this book.

Let me preface the rest of this review and say that my college education didn't manage to imbue a greater understanding of the sciences unfortunately. I was a liberal arts major and a liberal arts major only.

Therefore, you can understand why I might have been a tad hesitant going into this book. Aside from the excerpt I read before I received my copy, I had no idea if I'd understand a word, let alone concept, of this book. I was afraid the passages would be too high-level for my finite understanding of genetics.

So you can Imagine that I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. In each section, the author discusses stories from his life and his work, and how genetic code has played a major role in a variety of seemingly unsolvable medical cases. I was deeply appreciative of the fact that Dr. Ashley wrote this in a way that almost anyone could understand. I felt like I was always able to keep up, even when he discussed topics like obscure diseases caused by tiny pieces of a genetic code. I'd never looked into genetics on my own, but this book really opened my eyes to how revolutionary and game-changing these advances are for the overall medical field. It's exciting and gives me a lot of hope for the future.
