Medical literacy, like all forms of literacy, has the power to change lives for the better. Of the many strategies to increase medical literacy my favorite are books like The Genome Odyssey. Such a book makes complex scientific information accessible for lay people. And, as the author states in his prologue, it may very well inspire the next generation of researchers.
