There is no denying this is a fast-paced, high tension read but I’m sad to say this book just didn’t work for me. I enjoyed the first few chapters because they set the scene for an exciting mystery featuring a hard-edged main character. Unfortunately, the book lost my interest pretty quickly. I found myself skimming pages, rather than excitedly absorbing what I was reading and eagerly anticipating the outcome. I reached a point that I didn’t really care what happened. This is a disappointment because, unlike some other readers who expressed dislike of the main character, Claire, I connected very strongly with her and her emotional damage. The story just did not deliver the way I hoped it would. I do plan on reading other books by this author because he is clearly a talented author.
