This was a solid mystery/thriller with a good story line. The main character, Claire, is emotionally scarred due to an abusive upbringing by her grandmother. She returns to the DC area to put her grandmother in a nursing home, forcing her to confront some of the issues that have caused her difficulty in her life and relationships. She has also just freaked out and left her boyfriend because of a fear of commitment. Immediately, she is thrown into an unexpected situation when she finds herself being followed and learns that one of her childhood friends has died (likely murdered).

I really thought the drugs/pharmaceutical theme and the modern technological aspects to the story were fascinating. But the characters seemed a little off. Would you really send a bozo like Napoleon to do your dirty work?? And Claire herself--at times she's razor sharp and can keep her head in a serious hostage situation, then she can't "help herself" and stay off her phone that is obviously being tracked?

That being said, I appreciate what the author was trying to do with the psychological story--facing past trauma, healing, etc. Thank goodness this did not turn into a romance. There were way too many obsessive and repetitive thoughts about Paul that I though my rating was going to take a nosedive, but it recovered well. I liked the ending.
