I never read the original Artemis Fowl series, and maybe one needs to read it to get into this story. Because I simply couldn't get into it. After an epiloge that seems misplaced, the first chapter starts off with a rather formal tone but a ridiculous pun name for the antagonist. There's also a lot of exposition without real context. Again, I feel that I need to go back and read the original series first. But overall, the style, the tone, the story is just not my cup of tea.
