This book was absolutely heartbreaking. It tore my to pieces. I was really not expecting this book to impact me the way it did, since I’ve read another Rita Sepetys book before, and didn’t really enjoy it. But man, I loved this one to the bottom of my heart. Such an emotional and well crafted and well written historical fiction set during the Spanish civil war, which we really don’t hear a lot about in historical fiction, but this one was just truly written so well, with characters that you can’t help but to connect to and fall in love with. Your heart will break when you see what these people have to go through, but that only means that it is an absolutely fantastic book by being able to do so.
