Gosh, I'm not sure where to even start with this. I think Ruta Sepety is easily becoming one of my favorite historical fiction authors ever. Her writing style is absolutely stunning. It draws you in right from the beginning. She truly has mastered the art of story telling. Her characters make you feel connected right away and you feel all their emotion- pain, happiness, love, friendship. This was very different from any of her other books. This takes place in 1950s Madrid, Spain during a time of turmoil. We find out more about what is happening under the Fascist leader and the desperate measures that the Spanish government will go to in order to get money. This snippet was excellent and I cant wait to get this book!
