I've always had a soft spot for historical fiction and I loved Sepetys other books, especially Salt to the Sea, which first got me interested in her books, and going into this book, I had extremely high expectations, which ultimately let me down.

This book has a slower start then most of Sepetys' other books, but once the real story begins it's interesting, I just wish it had started sooner.

One thing this book has is multiple POVs, which are can get a little tiresome after a while, especially when some of the character's 'chapters' are only one page, which doesn't give me too much insight on who the character is.

The time jump made me extremely angry, I want to know what happened in those 18 years, and I felt like it was wrong of the author to do that.

Overall, I liked the book and the plot, but it just fell short.
