Wow! This book is one of my new favorites! It is hands down the best historical fiction I have ever read! The book is set in Madrid. It talks about Spain and their Civil War, life under their cruel dictator, and how it all affected their citizens. I never knew about this part of history, and I think that is a big part of why I love this book so much. The book also shares multiple viewpoints from multiple characters. I also loves how each of the stories intertwined with each other to create a bigger picture. The book's main character is Daniel, who is visiting Spain from America. He is clueless to Spain's history and how the people their suffer. As Daniel learned more about their history, I felt like I was learning right along with him. All in all, I REALLY loved the writing, characters, and lessons in this book!
