This is the most beautiful book. I loved it. I also learned a lot which is always a bonus when reading fiction. I had not known anything about Spain’s history exceptnthat it had been once under Franco’s dictatorship. I knew that was bad, but nothing else about what that entailed or how the people were directly affected. I immediately went and researched the era. US schools do not delve deep enough into this when teaching world history. I was so invested in what happened to Daniel and Ana. The bullfights, the secretive nuns, the orphans and the police were all captivating to me and I could imagine being Daniel and experiencing it all. The characters were so vivid and I would have liked to know them all! Excellent book!!
