I love the style Rita Sepetys used to write her books. The chapters are short. The plot follows an event in history that is not widely known. I had no prior knowledge for Fransisco's regime in Spain around WWII, and I also didn't know the extent of what they were doing.
This book really packs a punch. It's a definite page turner. I couldn't look away. It seems like a long book, but it really is a quick read because of the formatting and pacing.
The characters were loveable and it was easy to cheer them on as they uncovered the mystery and injustice swarming around them.
For being a Young Adult book, this doesn't feel like teeny-bopper writing. I absolutely loved how enthralled I was by this story.
Rita Sepetys is now an auto-buu author for me. I can't wait to see what she does next because I love doing a deep dive into history after each book that I have read by her.
