This is my first exposure to the writings of Ruta Sepetys, and it was a great one!
I've been increasingly interested in historical fiction as of late, and The Fountains of Silence really hit the spot for me right now. The vivid characters had me drawn in and connected to the story from the start. Weaved in with those characters was the setting of the fascist dictatorship of General Francisco Franco in Spain. The characters and setting was the perfect combination. I was transported back to 1957 and got to learn about life in that period while simultaneously being entertained by the story throughout. I will certainly pick up The Fountains of Silence for my collection and look forward to adding other Sepetys works to it as well.
