This is a story about Spain in the late 1950s under dictatorship General Franco, the story follows Daniel and Ana and what transpires in their lives during this period in Madrid. Daniel is an American in Spain to visit his mother's homeland and he explores his love of photography whilst among the suffering of those around him. Ana works at the hotel where Daniel is staying and the two strike up a friendship as he grows to learn more about her struggles in Madrid. This book explores the secret history of Spain during this time after the fallout of the Spanish war. This book is an intriguing, well-layered story for those who are fans of historical fiction. I really enjoyed the writing style of this author, I am looking forward to reading some of her other work.
