History was never my favorite subject in school (shh!). Because of this, I am often hesitant to commit to a historical fiction novel. However, after reading the first few chapters of The Fountains of Silence, I knew that I wanted to commit to this one. I Was not disappointed.

Daniel is visiting Spain in the fifties with his parents. He is for Texas, his family is in the oil business, and Spain's dictator, Franco, is open to doing business with them. They are seeing the fancy side of Madrid. However, Daniel wishes to be a photojournalist. He loves discovering and sharing truths with people.

Ana works at the hotel where Daniel is staying and is assigned to Daniel's family. She is a product of Franco's Spain. As they get to know each other and share their stories, we get to learn about Spain in the fifties. I learned quite a bit and enjoyed the story. I recommend it!
