This was the first novel I've read that was written by Ruta Sepetys. And it was absolutely phenomenal. The Fountains of Silence takes place in Madrid, Spain, in the 1950s. The main character, Daniel, is an aspiring photographer and through some events, eventually meets Ana. Ana has a lot of secrets, some of which are really dark. Throughout the book, Sepetys weaves together the darkness of the dictatorship that Spain was under in the 1950s while also telling the tale of Daniel and Ana.
The book does jump between a lot of various points of views in a very short amount of time, once you get used to the style it's not very hard to keep up with. Even though it was my first book by Sepetys I've ever read, this was an excellent one to start with.
