This young adult historical fiction takes place in Madrid, 1957. It was a time when Spain was under the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco. What I enjoyed the most about this book was the historical aspect that highlighted all of the horrible things that happens in Madrid, especially all the stollen children. I’m grateful to have found a book that highlights the important and unjust treatment and experiences of the Spaniard people during this time.It was also nice to see this experience from multiple points of views. Ana who is a Spaniard girl working in a hotel build to attract Americans and paint a different picture of the cruel Spain the citizens were experiencing. Then Daniel who is the son of an American tycoon, and arrives in Madrid with his parents hoping to connect with this mother’s birth land.
This book is full of mystery, history, and danger. I would recommend it.
