Set in the late 1950's in Madrid. This gives us a look into the fascism endured by Spain under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco.
We follow Daniel Matheson from Texas who is a aspiring photographer. He along with his parents are visiting Madrid, which is his mother's birthplace. He meets Ana who is a hotel maid. She is tasked with taking care of of the Matheson family during their stay.
I enjoyed the historical aspect of the story, it was very intriguing. There was also bit of mystery which I enjoyed. I like that the love story was mild yet heart grabbing. We could have used more of the aftermath of the adoption story and Ana and Daniel's life into their adulthood. You get a little of them as adults but It left me wanting more of what became of them.
