Another great one from Ruta Sepetys!

The Fountains of Silence is another fantastic historical fiction from Ruta Sepetys! Set during the reign of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco, this story is told from four perspectives, three young adults living in Madrid and one American teenager from Texas visiting Spain for the summer, as they navigate life in Spain under a dictatorship. I really felt the fear the Spanish characters experienced on a daily basis, and thought that having the American perspective helped bring together the whole experience of understanding what life under Franco was truly like. As always, Ruta Sepetys has done an excellent job bringing to life lesser known history. This 5-star read is possibly her best yet, and you’ll walk away from this story feeling like you learned something new and with a desire to dig deeper into the history of Franco’s rule.
