I knew nothing about Spain's history going into this book. I did not know that Spain's history was similar to that of Cuba under Castro, that American's did not visit easily, that there was a ruler in power who was similar to Castro.

Fountains of Silence taught me so much, while uncovering some of the hidden things about Spain in the 1950s that are not talked about much today in America, such as the adoptions and Franco's rule.

In a time when it is hard to travel and see the world, I practically smelled the Iberian air while flying through this book. Read as a part of the Bookish Ladies Club buddy reads, I enjoyed reading and discussing the love story of Daniel and Ana and guessing on whether or not they would end up together.
