The cover was intriguing so I decided to take a chance on the "First Look" excerpt. I'm so glad I did! Ruth Sepetys brings the scenery to life with vivid descriptions of the colors, the feel of the air . . . you can almost smell the scents wafting from the cafe as Daniel experiences them and feel the warm air on your face. The author does just as fantastic a job conveying the emotions of the various characters to the reader. I was immediately drawn to Ana and her plight - even though I have no clue what her secret is! - and I'm already rooting for Daniel to have the courage to stand up to his father and chase his dream of being a photojournalist. Can't wait to read the rest!
