What stuck out to me right away is how invested I already am in characters. Ruta has a way of creating descriptive locations and characters such that you are able to have an image running through your mind while reading. Having never learned anything about the time period this book is based upon I am excited to learn more about what transpired and to learn what happens to the characters.
