The First Mistake was the first book I had read by Sandie Jones. While it moved along at a good pace and had well written characters, something about the writing just didn't connect with me.
Alice was a good main character, well written, likeable, and a reliable narrator.
While the story started to unfold and suspicious things were happening, I had a gotten a bit confused trying to figure out what was going on, but I guess that's a good thing, since it was not predictable.
Beth was not a good person, but she was a woman scorned, though she did a lot of shady things to Alice when come to find out she didn't know the whole story.
Speaking of the whole story, "Nathan" was a sociopath, and both women, ESPECIALLY Beth, we're very gullible. Alice I can see not knowing, not suspecting something, especially after 8 years and a child. Beth on the hand was way to naive.
The ending was unsatisfying, it felt rather juvenile and a way for the character to explain what and who he was rather than it unfolding and being an OMG moment. I'm glad it wrapped up and explained everything, but the execution felt anticlimactic and too "neat".
