I liked Alice right away. Alice has two daughters, Sophia 15 years old, and Olivia, 9 years old. Sophia's father is Tom, Alice's first love. The man she thought she would be sharing a breakfast with her whole life. But that didn't happen because when Sophia was 7, Tom left for a skiing trip and was never found. Alice was in a downward spiral of grief and fear until she met Nathan.

Nathan picked her up, picked up all the shattered pieces of her and glued them together. He cared about Sophia and helped them both to heal. Of course, it was hardly a year after Tom’s death when Alice and Nathan conceived Olivia, unplanned, this had the potential to throw Alice right into another bout of depression and anxiety. Alice should be able to give her all to Nathan, but she’s always felt a little unfaithful to Tom and held herself a little distanced.

And maybe Nathan knows she’s held herself back, left herself not fully committed because lately he’s been acting suspicious. So, Alice turns to Beth, the first friend she’s had in a while. Beth may not be totally unbiased since her ex left her stranded and pregnant, for another woman. Is she capable of seeing the good in Nathan, let alone any man?

Told in 3 parts this book kept me riveted to the page. Looking back, it may be a little easy to predict, but I’m not convinced that takes away from the story. I don’t need to be completely on edge and guessing the whole way through the book to enjoy the journey. This had complex characters and story lines that I really enjoyed. I will say, I found the ending to be a little abrupt, maybe it’s just me wishing it would have been drawn out a little more, but it felt a little rushed as all the final twists and turns are revealed.

This has been described as a great beach read, but guys, I don’t like going to the beach (I know, I know), so I’m gonna go ahead and say you can safely read this in the comfort of your favorite comfy chair and still enjoy the heck out of it.
