This type of thriller is really my favorite kind. Completely and totally implausible, but so very well written that I'm willing to set my disbelief utterly to the side and just enjoy the ride. Alice's first husband, Tom, dies and she finds love and a second chance with Nathan. He seems to be everything she could want. He adopts her first child Sophie, and they end up having a second child, Olivia together. Alice's best friend Beth, is also in the picture, and Beth eventually tells Alice the story of her daughter Millie's father.....whose name happens to be Tom, who also happens to share the same birthday as Alice's deceased first husband. What's going on here? What follows is a twisty turny deceitful tale in which Alice begins to question everything she ever knew about Beth, Tom, Nathan, and her own interior design business as well as her own life for the last 10 years. It's a sickening tale of duplicity and double cross and one that leads Alice into having to make a life or death choice.
