The First Mistake is a fairly even paced domestic thriller that touches on the themes of marriage, friendship and deceit. I often find that a lot of domestic thrillers end up disappointing me, but this one held through. There were a few plot points that felt predictable but overall the journey to get to the big ah-ha moments was thought provoking and carefully mapped out within a unique story line.

This was my first read from Sandie Jones, and I really enjoyed her writing style, I felt that it was easy to follow and all of her characters had a strong presence with distinct personality traits that I could cling to. The book is broken out into several parts and alternates perspectives between two of the three main characters, which makes it easy to follow.

As previously mentioned, this is a domestic thriller. The pace was slower than most thrillers, as expected but it definitely did not drag on. I would recommend this book as a beach read or something quick to get you through a weekend.
