Predictable yet Not

I always appreciate a queer book (and superhero ones too). I found the concept of almost pop-star superheroes and interesting way to take the superhero concept. This book took an interesting spin on the superhero genre while also being a coming-of-age gay romance. The entire book, I was certain I could predict the entire ending, but it still managed to surprise me. Good books are never totally predictable. I also liked how the author incorporated the concept of a fan fiction writer romance into their story.

My main critique of this story is the main character. He is incredible self-centered and oblivious to absolutely everything around him. While I found that interesting at first, this character flaw got annoying as the book progressed. I also couldn't understand why he had such great friends when he is an egotistical jerk.

Overall, my opinions on this book were really divided. I appreciated the genre mash-up and gay romance elements, but the main character really killed the story for me.
