Read as the December #WickAndJaneBookClub pick on Instagram! I may have finished this several days early because I couldn't stop and needed answers.

Nick Bell is not an Extraordinary, but he does have on of the hottest fanfics in the Extraordinary fan world. After a chance mugging erm meeting with his crush Shadow Star, Nick is determined to become an Extraordinary. He ropes his friends into helping him though they are all very reluctant.

This book was so freaking cute. There was no way for me to read this without a smile on my face. Originally I started reading the physical book, but when I heard how extra the narrator is I decided to listen along, and it was the best decision ever. The narrator was perfect and I loved how he captured all of the characters in this book, especially Nicky.

Nicky has ADHD which can lead to some amazing tangents. I never expected to relate to Nicky as much as I did. I am kind of questioning whether my brain may not be as neurotypical as I thought. Anyway that's something to talk to a medical expert about. But the way Nicky's thoughts raced, would split into tangents without any regard of what the previous subject was, and the migraines were all so relatable. Part of this could definitely be due to anxiety, but Nicky describes his brain as being on fast forward at times with no option to slow down or rewind and I have definitely felt that before.

Okay besides that, what I really loved was Nicky and his group of friends. Gibby was a hilarious person, and the amount of times she laughed at Nick because he was so oblivious made this even better. Jazz was the charming voice of reason through this novel. Many people (including Nicky) thought she was sort of flighty because of being a rich cheerleader, but Jazz is probably one of the smartest in this group, but she's sly about it and I love her. And then there's Seth: Nicky's best friend since the age of six, and master wearer of bow ties and ascots. These two were so clearly in love, but my god, the sexual tension. Half the fun of this book is Nicky being flustered because he has feelings and doesn't know what to do with them. Which is very relatable.

As for the plot, it was a bit mystery with the secret identities, and some action/comedy. Nicky's schemes on how he would become an Extraordinary were ridiculous, but so much fun. The amount of times his friends said Nicky NO! while he said Nicky YES! was the best. Agh I can't even explain well enough without spoilers. And then there's Nicky's relationship with his dad, who is a single parent. Nick's dad was so wonderful and like I just had so many feels whenever they talked--this is the supportive parent rep I want in all the books.

Wow okay this has become an essay. If you made it this far and I haven't convinced you to read this I don't know what will. Because you should absolutely read it.
