I had really wanted to like this book, but I found I just couldn't. Most of the characters felt very one-dimensional despite efforts to make them complex. There were some really sweet interactions between Nick and his father and friends, but these moments didn't make up for the problems I had with the rest of the book. I didn't feel like there were any real consequences for any of the character's actions and I felt like we were dealing with the exact same issues over and over again throughout the whole story. The portray of the police was insensitive, but Klune has already addressed that so I won't delve too much into that. I felt the women in the story were especially bland and a bit stereotypical, which was really disappointing to me. The book was riddled with cliches, which isn't an issue in it of itself (I'm a sucker for a good cliche as much as the next guy) but I found they were done in a rather ineffective way. The world-building seemed a little all over the place to me and I never really understood the idea of the extraordinaries beyond a surface level throughout the story.
