WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

I have somewhat of a complicated relationship with this book. On the one hand, it’s incredibly predictable and cliched. On the other hand, it was really funny and I’d read the sequel. Who really knows? Anyways, pros and cons:
I’ll start with the good. This book really was laugh-out-loud funny. My favorite parts were when Gibby would openly make fun of Seth obviously being in love with Nick and Nick realizing neither Seth’s feelings, nor Gibby’s jokes. On that note, Gibby and Jazz are QUEENS. Jazz smashing the bug and guessing the identities of the two most prominent Extraordinaries? Iconic.
Alright, the bad. This book was just ridiculously predictable and cliched! Most superhero stories are pretty much the same, but I was really hoping this one would be different. Nope, the two backstories for the Extraordinaries are “daddy issues” and “orphan”. Nick even says Owen is like a knock-off version of Harry Osbourne. I only needed to read the summary to know Seth was a superhero, hell, my 11-year-old sister guessed after I told her two sentences about it! It did take me a bit to guess that Seth was Pyro Storm, not Shadow Star, but it was still pretty quick.
Basically, I liked the book but I wouldn’t recommend it. I will be reading the sequel, though.
