The thing I loved most about this book was that it spotlighted environmental issues that persist in today's world and ones we certainly take for granted. Our climate and water are natural resources we use (and abuse) in excess when there is an abundance of it and is all around us.

What if our current climate changed and there was a shortage of water? This story follows Signe, in current day, as well as David and his daughter Lou in post-apocalyptic times, through these environmental changes and shortages. Water plays a central role in this one and is seemingly the thread that connects everyone. While I loved the message that this book beautifully highlights, I found the connection between the two timelines to not be as seamless as I had hoped. I would've loved to see their stories converge earlier and really see how Signe's time and the actions of her generation affected, both negatively and positively, the lives of David and Lou in the future.

There were strong themes of familial relationships and ties, environmental protection, love, and a sense of honoring and valuing the world we live in and the people around us.

Thank you to HarperVia for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
